Two Draft Bylaws Defeated

Draft Off Highway Vehicle Bylaw and Draft Dog Control Bylaw Amendment Voted Down by Council

Off Highway Vehicle Bylaw

Village Council has decided not to allow quads and side-by-sides within the municipality.  In August Council received a request to allow certain off highway vehicles be used within the Village. Over the last four months Council has gone through an open process looking at the possibility which included reports from both the R.C.M.P. and the local Peace Officers from the Ridge Regional Public Safety Services (RRPSS).  The process also included looking at the what other municipalities allow and seeking public input.  Council received letters from residents over a 6 week period.

At the November 19, 2014 Council Meeting a motion for second reading of draft Off Highway Vehicle Bylaw No. 456-14 was brought forward.  After discussing the proposed Bylaw the motion was defeated.

Dog Control Bylaw Amendment

Council voted against raising the number of dogs allowed.  In October the Dog Bylaw Review Committee recommended Council increase the number of dogs allowed to 3.  Council passed first and second reading of the proposed Bylaw at the October 15, 2014 meeting.  Council then asked for community input regarding the change.  Third reading of the proposed Bylaw was heard at the November 19, 2014 Council meeting and the motion was defeated.  The decision means the current Dog Control Bylaw maximum of 2 dogs per property is upheld.
