Village Council Passes Motion to Explore Providing ATB Agency Services

Council is looking for public feedback after passing a motion to investigate the option of providing ATB agency services through the Village Office.  The direction comes after the Stirling ATB agency was closed at the Streetside Market following the recent sale of the business.  Council feels it is important to retain banking access in the community and wants to investigate the possibility of the Village offering the service.

Council Motion

The motion passed at the Wednesday, December 7, 2016 Council meeting is as follows:

“Councillor Lewington moved whereas Alberta Treasury Branches (ATB) provides financial services in the Village through an agency outlet / contracted fee for service arrangement and the current service provider’s contract will be ending December 7th, 2016.

And whereas ATB recently completed an open public call for proposals to seek such interested parties who may wish to provide such agency outlet services but received no expressions of interest.

And whereas the Village Council prefers that private business provide services to the community when possible but deems the provision of financial services in the community to be an important essential service for residents and enabler of economic growth.

Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Village Council directs Administration to investigate the option of providing ATB agency services through the Village Office and further directs Administration to develop an implementation plan on a cost neutral basis so far is practical to do so.

And be it further resolved that Administration report back to Council on the implementation plan.

And be it further resolved that Administration solicit public feedback through the Village website and Facebook site.”
