October 24, 2023 – Urgent Notice of Water Shut Off *** UPDATED ***
*** October 26, 2023 10:40 a.m. ***
We would like to thank our hard-working Public Works crew and our amazing Contractors for working in cold and wet conditions yesterday to complete critical repairs to our water system. At this time a Boil Water Advisory remains in effect! Any water used for consumption should be brought to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute. You can find additional information on a Boil Water Advisory here: Boil Water Advisory: How to Use Water Safely in Your Home (alberta.ca)
Water was restored around 5:00 p.m. yesterday evening but crews stayed on scene well into the late hours of the night to continue flushing the entire water system, as well as keeping an eye out for possible ruptures or leaks, which is a possibility when the system is re-pressurized. Water samples were also taken to Calgary for testing, as per Alberta Health Services requirements.
We appreciate our residents and water users for their understanding and patience during this event. We know it’s a huge inconvenience (we live here too), and it’s frustrating. A gentle reminder folks, we have an old infrastructure system. It’s going to break again. At some point in the future, more than likely at the most inconvenient time. Administration will do our best to keep you updated and informed. Besides our website, we post notices on the Village of Stirling | Stirling AB | Facebook, the electronic Marquee outside of the Administration Building, as well as the bulletin board directly in front of the Post Office as there are residents who do not have access to computers and/or social media.
A great way to be prepared for any emergency is to get informed and build an emergency kit. Visit Emergency preparedness | Alberta.ca for some great ideas on what to prepare for and what situations to expect in our province (where the weather can change drastically in ten minutes, and we can experience all four seasons in a 24-hour period).

*** URGENT NOTICE UPDATE OF WATER SHUT OFF ***
As of 8:00 a.m. this morning Village crews have shut off the potable water system for the Village and Fringe area water users. Residents may see fire hydrants open during this time. This is being done to speed up the draining of the system, so the repair can be done sooner. This will also happen following the repair as the line is filled and flushing of the system occurs.
As of 8:57 a.m. this morning Alberta Health Services has issued a Boil Water Advisory for the Village of Stirling. This advisory affects all properties and those properties in the Fringe rural water service area. The Advisory will remain in effect following the repair until such time as samples can be provided within a 24-hour period to have the advisory lifted.

*** URGENT NOTICE OF WATER SHUT OFF ***
The Village has suffered a valve failure on our main potable water line into town. As a result of this failure, we will have to shut off potable water services to all properties in the Village commencing at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 25, 2023. The shut-off will also include the Bulk Water Station. We anticipate the repair will take a large portion of the day, but our team will be working hard to restore water services as soon as possible.
To prepare for the shut-off the Village recommends that residents take the following actions:
Ensure you have a full day’s supply of drinking water available.
Fill bathtubs, or other large containers to allow for toilet usage.
Complete any hygiene or cleaning activities prior to the shut-off at 8:00 a.m. on October 25
Residents will be able to be updated with information as we learn details by visiting the Village
website or by subscribing to the Village Facebook page at the links below:

When water service is restored residents may notice the water appears cloudy. This is a normal occurrence for a repair of this type, as the recharged line will disturb sediment which has collected in the pipes over the years. Our staff will be flushing the lines to help clear this following the repair and residents may have to run their taps for a small period of time if they experience this, to clear their lines.
