Municipal Affairs Minister Greg Weadick presented a $42,000 cheque to the Mormon Trail Committee (MTC) in Magrath on Monday.  Magrath Mayor Russ Barnett accepted on behalf of the group.  The MTC is the group that oversees the “Canada’s Mormon Trail” tourism initiative.

The recently formed MTC includes the communities of Stirling, Raymond, Magrath and Cardston and was established to promote tourism within the area.  The funding will help the group plan for the future, set direction and take a positive approach to the tourism in the region.

Tourism is playing an increasing role in rural Alberta.  The MTC hopes to increase the tourism dollars coming into the 4 communities through this regional initiative.  Thanks to all of the participating communities for their support of this important tourism visioning, planning and marketing initiative.
