Waste Bin Collection Procedure Reminder

Curbside Garbage Collection Program – Cart Requirements

The Village would like to remind all residents that Waste Bins lids must be able to close in order to be picked up.  Recently, there have been numerous bins where the lids would not close, and garbage was piled so high it was almost impossible to properly dispose of it.  If Waste Bin lids are not closed properly, the bin will not be picked up.  Residents will have to take their garbage to the Transfer Station for disposal during regular Transfer Station hours.

The Waste Management Bylaw No. 464-16, Appendix “B” outlines the procedure of the Waste Bins.  Section 7 states:

All waste that is deposited into the Village issued Waste Collection Cart shall be bagged in a plastic bag tied at the            top and shall fit into the Waste Collection Cart so that the lid can close.

The Village would also like to remind residents that Waste Bins must be removed off the street by 10:00 p.m. on collection day.  The Waste Management Bylaw No. 464-16, Appendix “B” outlines all the requirements for placement of the Collection Bin on the Street and the time all bins must be removed from the street and returned to your property.  Section 8(c) states:

Every residency and Village business on collection day shall:
c) Ensure that the Waste Collection Cart is returned to their property before 10:00 p.m. the day of collection.

These requirements are in place year round.  The prompt removal of the bins from the street helps with snow removal in the winter months.  We understand that the large amount of snow this year can make it difficult to move your bin from your home to the street however, too many bins are being left on the street making it even more difficult to clear the roadways.

Residents who fail to remove their bin from the street can face a fine of $200 (for a first offence) under the Waste Management Bylaw.  To date no residents have been fined under this bylaw.  This posting will act as an official reminder and warning to all residents.
