Council

At the close of the Nomination period on September 20, 2021 at 12:00 p.m., five people had come forward for Council positions. As the Village of Stirling Council consists of five members, all five candidates were acclaimed. View the election results here.

Councillor Devynn Bohn resigned February 7, 2024.  Just Davis was elected as Councillor in the May 7, 2024 By-Election.

Mayor Trevor Lewington resigned on September 1, 2025.  Larry Nilsson was appointed Mayor, and Matthew Foss was appointed Deputy Mayor at the regular meeting of Council on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

Council will serve a 4 year term which will expire in October of 2025. Below you’ll find contact information for the Mayor and Village Council. If you have any questions email them directly or contact the Village Office.

 
Larry Nilsson

 Mayor Larry Nilsson

Mayor Larry Nilsson is serving his fourth term on Council. Nilsson was first elected to Council in 2004 and has served as Mayor from 2004-2010. He is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and is a Council representative for the Barons-Eureka-Warner Family and Community Support Services, The Mormon Trail Committee, Ridge Country Housing Authority, the Ridge Water Services Commission, and the Stirling Historical Society. Larry Nilsson was elected as Mayor at the September 3, 2025 Council Meeting when former Mayor Lewington resigned on September 1, 2025.  Mayor Nilsson is retired.

 Deputy Mayor Matthew Foss

Councillor Matthew Foss is serving his second term on Council. He is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and is a Council representative for Oldman Regional Services Commission, Ridge Regional Public Safety Services Commission, Ridge Water Services Commission and the Stirling Cemetery Society. He is also a Council representative for the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework.   Matthew Foss was elected as Deputy Mayor at the September 3, 2025 Council Meeting when former Mayor Lewington resigned on September 1, 2025. Deputy Mayor Foss works as a real estate appraiser.

 Councillor Gary Bikman

Councillor Gary Bikman is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and is a Council representative on the Municipal Library Board, the Community Events Committee, the Chief Mountain Regional Solid Waste Services Commission, the Chinook Arch Regional Library System, Community Futures Lethbridge Region, Ridge Water Quality, and SouthGrow Regional Partnership.  Councillor Bikman is retired.

 Councillor Justin Davis

Councillor Justin Davis was voted to Council at the May 7, 2024 By-Election. He is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and is a Council representative on the Municipal Library Board, the Chinook Arch Regional Library System, and SouthGrow Regional Partnership. Councillor Davis is a Civil Engineering Technologist at Wilde Bros. Engineering.
