Council

Mayor Trevor Lewington is serving his third term on Council and second term as Mayor. He is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and represents Stirling to the Southern Alberta Chief Elected Officials Committee also known as the Mayors & Reeves of Southwest Alberta. Lewington is also Stirling’s representative to the Regional Emergency Management Committee.

Outside of his Council role, Lewington is the CEO of Economic Development Lethbridge. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Dhillon School of Business at the University of Lethbridge. Trevor is also an active member of the Board of Directors of Economic Developers Alberta serving as President in 2021/2022 as well as the Governance Committee Chair for the Lethbridge Hurricanes WHL Hockey Club. He is also the Corporate Secretary to and Director of Ridge Utilities Ltd.

Lewington holds a Bachelor of Commerce with a major in Human Resource Management, completed a Change Leadership Certificate with Cornell University and is a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) through CPHR Alberta. He has been recognized as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) by the Society for Human Resource Management. Lewington is also a Certified Logistics Professional (CCLP) through the Canadian Institute of Traffic and Transportation. He completed the Directors Education Program and has obtained the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Lewington is an accredited Insights Discovery Client Practitioner delivering training on communication, team and leadership effectiveness.

In 2019, Lewington was awarded an honorary doctorate by the 29 institutions and professional associations that comprise the Claustro Doctoral Iberoamericano. He was recognized by Economic Developers Alberta for “outstanding dedication and service” to the profession as “2019 Economic Developer of the Year.” Lewington has previously received an award from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for his field work and contributions to the Caribbean Local Economic Development Project having worked to build local government capacity in Belize and Jamaica.

Deputy Mayor Larry Nilsson is serving his fourth term on Council. Nilsson was first elected to Council in 2004 and has served as Mayor from 2004-2010. He is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and is a Council representative for the Barons-Eureka-Warner Family and Community Support Services, The Mormon Trail Committee, Ridge Country Housing Authority, the Ridge Water Services Commission, and the Stirling Historical Society. Councillor Nilsson is retired.

Councillor Gary Bikman is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and is a Council representative on the Municipal Library Board, the Community Events Committee, the Chief Mountain Regional Solid Waste Services Commission, the Chinook Arch Regional Library System, Community Futures Lethbridge Region, Ridge Water Quality, and SouthGrow Regional Partnership.

Councillor Justin Davis was voted to Council at the May 7, 2024 Bi-Election. He is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and is a Council representative on the Municipal Library Board, the Chinook Arch Regional Library System, and SouthGrow Regional Partnership.

Councillor Matthew Foss is serving his second term on Council. He is a member of the Municipal Planning Commission and is a Council representative for Oldman Regional Services Commission, Ridge Regional Public Safety Services Commission, Ridge Water Services Commission and the Stirling Cemetery Society. He is also a Council representative for the Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework.  Councillor Foss works as a real estate appraiser.
