Community Organizations

The Stirling Historical Society maintains and hosts the Michelsen Homestead, a provincial historical site located in the northwest part of the village. The original Michelsen home was built in 1907. The LDS church sent Andreas Michelsen and his family on a mission to Stirling to help build a canal from Kimball, which is south of Cardston, Alberta to Stirling. The Michelsen Homestead is opened to the public for a nominal cost from May to September. Membership in the Stirling Historical Society is opened to all residents of the village and surrounding area. The society is the organizer of the annual community Village Garage Sale in May.

Previously known as The Stirling Lioness Club. Membership is open to all adults. We encourage new ideas, and look forward to getting to know you. We have some great family traditions in our club that we would like to be able to share with more new members. We promote joining the Lioness club for at least two years, and see if you can make a difference. Lioness Clubs offer leadership opportunities. The group meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m., from September till June. We also have social activities that build community spirit. Stirling is a great place to live and raise a family.
We serve, and by serving, we build community.

The Stirling Lions Club is a non-denominational service club dedicated to serving our community. The Stirling Community Centre, Stirling playground and the Stirling fishpond are all projects spearheaded by the club. Stirling School, the library, fire department and cemetery have all received financial support from the Lions. The club membership is open to men and women over 18 years of age who wish to help those less fortunate than themselves. The group meets the 1st Monday each month at 8:00 p.m., September through June at the Community Centre.

The association of parents & teachers who work together for the benefit of Stirling School children. Our main focus is to be a source of information for the principal towards the children’s education. We also plan special events & provide programs in the school.

The Seniors group is for people 60+ years old. The group meets at the Senior’s Center located in the Stirling Community Center. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month and include catered suppers. There are luncheons on the first and third Thursdays at 1:00pm.  The group has a pool table, games, and entertainment and arranges tours to special events.

The SSSC maintains a large, outdoor arena with lighting. Members can use the arena for riding at their convenience as well as participate in riding events and training organized by the club.
The SSSC meets on the first Wednesday each month at the Stirling Community Centre or at the SSSC new Concession Stand.

We have experienced firefighters & EMS volunteers and excellent fire fighting equipment. The department is always on the search for new members. If you are interested and are a team player please contact one of the members for more information. We supply the finances for training and equipment, all members are volunteers and do not receive wages. Are you aware that without a local fire department, your insurance rates would be much higher?

Stay and Play is a valuable program for parents and children (birth to six years) to attend together. This program is provided by FCSS and your tax dollars and there is no charge and registration is not required. Songs, rhymes, stories, sand and water play, dress ups and housekeeping, blocks, science, and creative art are all available in a safe and inviting learning environment. The Great Canadian Plains Railway Society runs and maintains the Galt Historic Railway Park. The society’s mission is promote the history of the railway development in Southern Alberta region from the late 1800’s to the 1930’s and to recognize the significant contribution made by Sir Alexander Galt & the Canadian Pacific Railway in developing the region.
